About Aimee Cobb Smith
Aimee began her career as a Deputy District Attorney under the Hon. Ellen Brooks of the Montgomery County District Attorneys Office, and then became an associate attorney with the non-profit environmental firm, WildLaw handling administrative appeals against State and Federal agencies. She began working with the Hon. Charles E. Vercelli handling private sector environmental cases. In April of 2002, Aimee opened the Law Offices of Aimee C. Smith. Her practice handles civil, criminal, and domestic litigation with a focus on litigation and appeals.
Aimee is a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association, the Alabama State Bar Association, the Montgomery County Trial Lawyers Association, and a Lifetime member of the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Aimee is admitted to practice before the Middle and Northern District of Alabama, and is a panel member of the Federal Defender program. She has served as a Temporary Probate Judge for Montgomery County, served on the Board of Directors for the Montgomery AIDS Outreach, member of the Junior League of Montgomery, and a member of Frazer United Methodist Church. Special accomplishments include appearing live on B.E.T. in New York with Ed Gordon, having multiple appellate rulings published in Alabama Law Weekly, and having some of her work as a Guardian Ad Litem used to educate other lawyers as part of their continued legal education courses.
Aimee received her Juris Doctorate from Jones School of Law, in December of 1997. During law school, Aimee was the First Year Honor Court Associate Justice; Secretary/Treasurer for the Student Bar Association, Vice-Dean of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, Representative for the Barbri Bar Exam Preparatory Course, and participant in the Moot Court competitions.
While attending law school, Aimee maintained a full time job with the Hon. Thomas T. Gallion III at Haskell, Slaughter & Gallion. She also worked with the Hon. Mac McArthur at the Institute for Ethics in Business & Government as a legislative assistance and researcher in the areas of election, judicial, campaign finance and ethics reform.
Aimee attended Auburn University, where she was in the pre-med curriculum, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. During college, Aimee remained on the President’s list for five quarters, was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society for maintaining higher than a 3.5 G.P.A. Aimee has volunteered for various charities and organizations, like Toys for Tots and American Cancer Society, as well as worked with at East Alabama Eye Associates, where she was an optometric assistant and nursing home coordinator for exams performed in over 30 nursing homes throughout the State of Alabama.
Aimee was born October 15, 1970 in Dothan, Alabama to Jerry E. and Retha Hutto Cobb. She has a twin sister, Ashley Cobb Shelley of Dallas, Georgia; an older brother, Shane Cobb of Dothan; and an older sister, Renee Cobb Roebling of Dothan. Aimee married James Andrew (“Andy”) Smith of Headland, Alabama in May of 1995. Andy is an architect with his own company, J. Andrew Smith Architecture. They have two children, Ian (a 5 year old son) and Riley (a 4 year old daughter).
